Bayou Culture Collaborative April 2026 Gathering

Bayou Culture Collaborative

April 2026 Gathering

Join us on April 24, 2026 for a gathering of people and organizations focused on preserving Louisiana’s heritage and examining the effects of land loss on local culture.

Dr. Diane Austin will share her arguments that the Deepwater Horizon disaster caused sociocultural harm and information about some of the projects for which the penalties were used. Dr. Austin was an expert witness for the U.S. Department of Justice’s settlement to resolve civil claims against BP Exploration & Production arising from the April 20, 2010 oil spill. The presentation will be followed by a discussion of cultural harm and the potential for restorative justice.
