The study heard round the region: Climate-driven depopulation and adaptation

A team led by Torbjörn Törnqvist of Tulane University published research this year that sparked conversations and debate across Louisiana. The findings contend that because of the rapid rate of land loss, Louisiana and the communities along our coast must prepare for shoreline retreat, framing the situation an opportunity to develop globally useful strategies to adapt to a changing planet. The researchers say there is time. But they make the case that planning must begin now.

Törnqvist, the Vokes Geology Professor in Tulane’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the School of Science and Engineering, will speak about the research in the latest lecture in CRCL’s series, then will participate in a Q&A session. The night will include snacks and beverages.
