CRCL: Mangrove Planting

CRCL Mangrove Tree Planting

Saturday, October 22nd

Plaquemines Parish, LA

9 AM – 3 PM

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) is excited to have you join us for a mangrove planting in Plaquemines Parish! In the Summer of 2021, CRCL constructed its 4th oyster reef in partnership with the Atakapa/Ishak-Chawasha Elders of the Grand Bayou Indian Village, to protect their sacred Lemon Tree Mound.  We will be working to plant 3,000 mangrove trees. Volunteers will take a boat ride to the project site.

Important information:

  • Check-in is from 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM
  • You should receive a confirmation email after registering, if you do not, please email sofia.giordano@crcl.org.
  • Directions and additional details will be provided to registered volunteers via e-mail a few days prior to the event. If it is the day before the event and you have not received details, check your spam folder, if not found, email sofia.giordano@crcl.org.
  • If you are interested in carpooling, please post to our carpool board. If you can offer a ride, please include the capacity of your vehicle, departure and return times, and where you are driving from. Please carpool at your own risk and discretion.
  • Please note the minimum age for volunteers is 14. No one under 14 will be allowed to participate in any capacity, sorry, no exceptions.
  • Lunch, snacks, water, and sports drinks will be provided to volunteers. Please bring your own refillable water bottle to cut down on plastic waste!
  • All equipment (gloves, shovels) will be provided to volunteers. CRCL provides waterproof boots on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Volunteers will be planting trees in the marsh, which is a wet and dirty environment. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and expect to get wet, as the water can very easily overtop one’s boots. Bringing a change of clothes is recommended. This is a strenuous activity, so physical fitness is required
  • .In an effort to reduce risks associated with in-person gatherings, volunteers are strongly encouraged to take a COVID-19 test before and after all CRCL volunteer events. If you are experiencing any signs of illness, please stay home. CRCL will provide PPE, hand sanitizer, and handwashing stations for use throughout the event. For the safety of CRCL staff and volunteers, please contact CRCL immediately if you test positive following a volunteer event so that we can implement contact tracing protocol.

We require that all volunteers please register to let us know if you plan to attend. If any additional members of your family/friends are attending, then they must also register.

Volunteering on our coast is a wonderful way to spend a day and we would like to ensure that everyone gets a chance to have a great experience.

  • If, after registering, you find you are unable to attend, please notify us of your cancellation.
  • If the event registration is full, you can request to be added to the waitlist by emailing volunteers@crcl.org.
  • If you’d like to bring a group to volunteer, please let us know, and we’ll try our best to accommodate you.

For inquiries about any of the above, you can contact our Native Plants Program Coordinator, Gardner Goodall, at gardner.goodall@crcl.org.
